Valverde Morgans is located in the Rio Grande Valley in central New Mexico. We are near the town of Socorro, about an hour south of Albuquerque. We take our name from the nearby location of Val Verde, site of one of the few Civil War battles fought in New Mexico, and also from the fact that the name, Val Verde, refers to this green valley we live in. Green is a precious color in the desert, and we feel fortunate to live here.

Our interest in Morgan horses stems from our efforts to find horses that are sound, sturdy, athletic, and willing trail, sport, and pleasure horses. That is the kind of horse we like, and the kind of horse we are trying to breed. We've found the gaited Morgans and western-working-bred Morgans seem to suit our needs the best, so that is what we concentrate on breeding. Our preferences are for a mix of western, old government and Brunk lines. I prefer Morgans with a good, balanced conformation, heavy and strong bone, long hips, and above all, calm and trainable dispositions.

While we aren't actively breeding for color, we have a palomino stud who seems to pass it on alot. I fell in love the the stallion Primavera Valdez many years ago and jumped at the opportunity to breed to him. Breeding a bay to a buckskin, I wasn't expecting the palomino, but it was an added bonus.
